GKD's previous website was getting a bit long in the tooth and wasn't very search engine friendly. The site wasn't being indexed by search engines and they weren't appearing in Google results at all.
The new site which Codeistry designed & built for GKD has an updated look and feel - based on their existing brand - but is built using completely modernised, search engine friendly code. The site is built using the MODx CMS, allowing GKD to maintain the extend the site themselves.
Showcase
The site showcases GKD's innovative woven wire mesh products, used in architectural projects around the world: from football stadiums, to train stations and concert halls.
The new website also features a News and Press section, where GKD can easily add news items and keep visitors up to date with new developments. There's also a New Products section, intended to showcase interesting new products and applications, like MediaMesh - GKD's new architectural wire mesh which can display video.
Search Engine Improvements
One of the goals of the website redevelopment was to make the new site much more search engine friendly, so that search engines, like Google, would index the site and it would appear in search results. This is often referred to as SEO. The old site wasn't being indexed and wasn't appearing in search results at all; the good news is that the new sites does. Last time I tried it, the site was on the 1st page of Google results for the query: 'architectural wire mesh' - which is pretty good!
Using HubSpot's website grader - which checks a website for various search engine friendliness features - the old GKD site scored 7/100. Last time I checked, the new version scored 47/100 - a massive improvement - and it's improving all the time, as new content is added and new links made.
Update August 25th 2010: Just checked this again and it's gone up to 80, since I last looked :)
